DIY INSPIRATION - LOGO TEES

Hand painted tees are possibly the easiest DIY around. A couple of years ago the Chanel tees did the rounds (this was one of my faves), and now Celine has popped up with one that's inspiring me to write my own logo or saying on a tee.You can use a Sharpie to do your design, but personally I prefer acrylic paint and a more relaxed looking logo. Acrylic paint is great because it's basically liquid plastic and sets quite nicely on a cotton tee. So what are you waiting for? Grab some paint and a white tee and go crazy!

Update: One of my readers let me know that a blogger was asked to remove a DIY logo tee from her website due to copyright infringement. If this concerns you my advice would be to put your favourite saying or something else on your tee rather than a branded logo.

DIY INSPIRATION - PAINT SPLATTERED DENIM

I'm super inspired by this editorial by Rodeo of paint splattered outfits - big thanks to Mandy for bringing it to my attention. Most of the clothes are Never Denim, and I'm particularly loving the splattered accessories. Something to do this weekend perhaps?

DIY LOUIS VUITTON GOLD COLLAR

My addiction to collars is still raging, and this amazing gold one by Louis Vuitton caught my eye. I couldn't help but have a go at making my own version!  I would love to be able to hand craft a metal collar, but unfortunately that's a major stretch of my DIY skills. So here's my basic (and way cheaper) version using leather and gold spray paint.

I used the same design as this leather collar project I did a very long while ago.

You Need:
Leather (I used a scrap from a skirt)
Scissors
Gold Spraypaint (make sure it's non-toxic as it will sit against your skin)
A Hook and eye.

How to:
1. I used as the template a collar I had made previously here. I have put the original pattern of it below.

2. Cut the collar out.

3. This is what the cut out collar should look like.

4. Take your collar outside and prepare to spraypaint. I did an undercoat of white so the gold would pop.

5. Spray with gold spraypaint.

6. Finally, sew the hook and eye on the front edges of the collar as shown below.

Voila! All done.

DIY NEON YELLOW COLLAR NECKLACE

To those of your who've been hanging out for the tutorial for the Sass & Bide inspired neon yellow necklace, I'm so sorry it's taken a long time. Life has been very hectic recently but I hope it's worth the wait. This is another very simple project with an amazing result.

You'll need:
A beaded collar necklace
Neon Spraypaint - look for a brand that is non-toxic when dry like Krylon (you'll also need white if the necklace is a dark colour like mine was)

How to:
1. Lay the necklace out on a piece of plastic or paper in a well ventilated area.
2. The trick with spraypaint is to do multiple thin coats rather than one thick coat as this gives a much more uniform finish. To do this I sprayed one side of the necklace quite a few times over the course of a day, then once it was completely dry I flipped it over and did the other side.
3. Spray the necklace with a base coat of white if the collar necklace is a dark colour, as you want the neon to pop.
4. Finally, spray the necklace with a few coats of the neon. I sprayed a number of coats so it was really thick so that the beads don't wobble around, and flipped over once the final coat was dry to do the other side.

You can also hang it up to do the spraying but because mine was a rounded collar shape it needed to be flat like this to work properly.

And voila! Although it's quite a summery style, I think you can easily integrate it into your winter wardrobe too!
