{travel inspiration: the gilded ceilings & chandeliers of hungary}

a-wonderful-world
hungary1

. . . sometimes the most inspiration comes from things we have never before seen, or places we have never before been, and so it is with these gauzy, dream-like and light-filled photographs of intricately carved wood and gilded ceilings, chandeliers, floral wallpaper and velvet, in hungary [budapest & keszthely] a place had never before considered, until now . . .

{so kiss me on this cold december night}

winter-wonderland
cabin1

. . . and if you have been reading for a while, you may remember our stay at a log cabin in the mountains, and so, was understandably delighted to happen upon this similarly designed mountain retreat -- the beamed ceilings and warm, time-worn wood, the antique and patterned rugs and grand stone fire places, all intermingled alongside tartan and plaid and pooling drapes, soft, caramel-coloured leather and velvet the shade of overcast skies, and glittery glass chandeliers, creating a perfect juxtaposition of town & country, rustic & refined . . .

"It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life."
~P.D. James

......................................................................................................

. . . this morning, the sun shone brightly, an utterly perfect start to the weekend, and a perfect way to end the month and we're ready for whatever november brings, so long as there are cosy heather grey sweaters and burnt crimson, logs by the fire and gilded frames, a sprinkle of chocolate on our morning coffee -- and so -- from this moment on, let the leaves fall where they may . . .

{décor inspiraton: beautiful details}

bits-of-gold-hed
m-a-2

. . . while spring may be a time for paring down, autumn is for layering -- for sweaters and long scarves and at home, wool blankets and velvet drapes, and a need to revel in beautiful details, and perfectly ornate bits of gold -- along the edges exotic woods and around the graceful curves of spiral staircases . . .

. . . if you have been reading for a while, you will know about a mad love for storage on display, and whether shoes or a perfume collection, all the pretty little things about the house are easily transformed into works of art, when displayed in a beautiful glass cabinet . . .

. . . and while on the topic of back to work, aren't these desk accessories lovely, lovely? they would look especially perfect on a mirrored desk and surrounded glittery & gilded accessories, and am also quite taken with the white pencils dipped in gold . . .

{at the office: inspirational workspaces}

all-in-a-days-work-hed

. . . and it would seem that everything has been running a few hours behind since the week began, although suppose it's always the case when one has been away for a while, but happily, a side affect of having been away is returning with a new and beautiful energy, overflowing with inspiration, and with so many lovely things to share, that can hardly work quickly enough . . .

{p.s.} in other words, running very, very behind today and a new {favourite five}, still & soon! x

{work of art: briar wood bracelets lined in silver}

work-of-art-hed
wood-metal

. . . and while on the topic of perfect juxtapositions, these briar root bracelets lined in silver, by chicago-based metalsmith, gillion carrara, combine natural and industrial elements, and are so stunning, they are works of art . . .

a l i t t l e m o r e a b o u t t h e d e s i g n e r

carrara's work explores the relationship between materials, design and function, often appropriating materials that evoke specific responses based on cultural and psychological associations: bone, horn, shell, antler, and various woods and briar root, combined with precious metals: silver, bronze and gold; materials are selected from as far away as tuscany, africa, south america and india, as well as the western and midwestern united states
