Little secrets

Simultaneously with the disappearance of the nice weather, I felt like wearing less colorful items. Rain and cold weather often ask for dark clothes, and I happily yielded to that request last Friday. I wore my new leather-trimmed jeans and I think they look totally stunning in combination with the other items in this outfit.

The warming up

I can barely wait to buy my new spring and summer wardrobe. One of the (many) reasons for that: the pastel trend. The items in soft colors definitely stole my heart. However, the climate in Holland doesn't allow me to wear a whole outfit in pastel colors already (think: mint green transparent skirt, peach strappy sandals, and white t-shirt when it's raining..), but I found an alternative. The outfit I wore today consists of light-colored items, but it doesn't look too summery. I guess you can see it as a wintery warming up for spring's hottest trend.

DIY ISABEL MARANT RENELL JEANS

I've been lusting over these Isabel Marant 'Renell' jeans for over a year now, and I recently stumbled across a number of DIY projects that you could use to make your own. I found two different ways to make them - take your pick! You can use the printable pattern for the Aztec design which you can find over at Semi blog here

I found this tutorial over at The Fashion Worshiper

1. Print out the patterns below onto iron-on transfer paper.
2. Cut the patterns out and then iron onto the jeans - making sure to line up the seam properly.
3.Go over the top of the pattern with puff paint. This also gives the pattern more definition.

I found another way you could do it over at Desde Tenerife Con Amor.

1. Print out the pattern below and stick to thin cardboard - then carefully cut out the black sections using a stanley knife.
2. Place the stencil onto the jeans and use a sponge/brush to transfer black fabric paint onto the jeans in the shape of the stencil.
3. Use a small brush to handpaint the apricot coloured sections of the pattern.
4. Then use puff paint to fill in the other coloured accents of the pattern.

Earmuffs and gossip girl

I'm having a great weekend. One of the reasons for that: A gossip girl marathon! It's so refreshing to have a weekend off after months of non stop working on various things, and I try to enjoy it as much as possible. I know it's a shame I haven't seen gossip girl before, but now I have, I became totally addicted to it. However, besides the fact it took me some effort to turn off the DVD player, I'm here now and I want to show you the outfit I wore yesterday. It's very winter proof again, because of the extremely low temperatures we're experiencing in Holland at the moment. I changed my beloved grey coat (previous post) into my faux fur coat and went outside while being amazed at the stability that the platform shoes gave to me when I walked through the snow. So even though an outfit like this doesn't look like the perfect outfit to conquer cold and snowy days, it definitely is.

Tutorial: Distressed jeans

"A pair of jeans should be a part of you, through all the victories and getaways. They should know you better than you know yourself, and only improve every time you wear them. With every scratch, mark and hole they should tell it like it is. That this is your life, and you are the master of your own destiny. You're not a lamb, you're a lion. So make your mark and let it show." - Outfitters Nation

When the lovely people of Outfitters Nation told me about their new campaign, I was immediately excited. It's called "Make Your Mark", and it's all about jeans and the way you can leave your adventures and experiences on them. All the jeans of the collection have a sandpaper attached, so that you can customize them in the way you want. I wanted to rip ánd bleach them (over-the-top, soooo totally me haha), but I couldn't find bleach anywhere in the house, so a DIY of a bleached jeans is still in the planning.

Sooo... HOW DO WE START?

Step 1 Buy a Outfitters Nation jeans here. I really recommend them , by the way. I've never worn such comfortable jeans (honestly).

Step 2 Choose the places you want to look pale and rub with sandpaper on those places (only horizontally, then there will be no hole but only a faded look)

Step 3 Choose the places in the pale areas you want to have ripped. On those places, you have to rub horizontally ánd vertically on the jeans. If you want to make holes, you obviously have to rub harder (or even pull the hole apart with your hands, like I did).

Step 4 And don't forget the edges of the pockets! It creates such a real distressed look.

Step 5 Almost done...

Step 6 Remove the fluff from the jeans (and clean your room, because probably everywhere will be substance)

Step 7 Done! To create a I-don't-care look, you can roll up the pipes.

The greenish person

Don't change yourself into someone else because you're different than the majority; try to love your uniqueness.

The funniest fact about my eyes is that their color looks different depending on the color of my outfit. When I wore this mostly green outfit to lecture last Monday, they turned out really green. However, other times they want to be grey, blue or a colorful mix of grey green ánd blue at the same time. The look was inspired by my new green bag (available here). I chose to create a more casual look with jeans and a vest I tied together with a sparkling gold belt. The faux fur trimmed scarf is one of my favorites for autumn, so I'm really glad the time of the year allowed me to grab that one out of my closet again.

J BRAND JEANS CHARITY COLLABORATION

What's not to love about J Brand  releasing 3 limited edition fall colours of their trademark skinny jeans, of which 100% of the profits go to City Year, an LA based charity that's working to keep kids in school. I love seeing  companies use their influence to do good, and fashion for charity projects are my favourite! This gorgeous vine coloured pair have slipped straight into my transitional wardrobe and I've barely taken them off since they arrived. Head here to check out the range.

J Brand is hoping to sell 1000 pairs, so if you're in need of a wardrobe staple like these, why not head over to their website and pick up a pair - knowing that you're helping a really good cause in the process.

Pssst... I have a really fun DIY project planned for these jeans in the coming weeks which I look forward to sharing with you! Hint: Isabel Marant...

Outfit: "Shredded part II"

I showed you one way to wear a shredded top (grey and knitted from Oh My Frock, in my case) in the previous post last Friday. Another - more casual - option is the combination I wore yesterday. I paired the top with my new Outfitters Nation jeans. Nothing but praise for the jeans of this brand. As you might know, I'm not a die hard jeans-girl, but because of Outfitters Nation I wear them much more! They are so comfortable and they all have a special aspect that distinguish them from the majority of jeans. This grey example has got the perfect shape and the pockets on the back are just perfect. To spice up the kind of monochrome look I chose some burgundy accents, like my nailpolish and the basic top. Like to put some "breaking points" into an outfit.
