. . . a collection of stunningly lovely lacy things has been quietly forming for some time now, even before its enchanting history was even a breath on lips, here, and so, on sleeves and gowns and gloves and shoes, the delicate whispers of white lace on a late spring afternoon . . .
"An ancient legend claims that the origins of lace lie in the so-called “trina delle sirene” – mermaid’s lace – an aquatic plant given by a sailor to a beautiful Venetian girl. She was so struck by its beauty that she wished to recreate it, thus giving rise to the art of lace-making."
Though the art of creating fine lace has nearly vanished, we may still hold onto those who treasure their craft, and continue to help create and shape an incredible and beautiful part of history. Lace can be found in many different forms, whether a sweet vintage handkerchief, a stunning gown from the runway, beautiful bed linens that have been passed down for generations, lacy undergarments, or a custom wedding gown, each stitch drawn in love.
And so, today we celebrate a history delicately woven of lace, as seen so beautifully in tales, memories, signs of love and life, embedded lovingly into each and every thread; we will discover secrets of lace making, intriguing moments in history, and close with a few lovely places around the world to find the perfect lace pieces . . .
. . . running ever fashionably late, but weekend links, exciting news, and a few other lovely things to follow, but for now, a quick stop to say hello and to wish you a perfect spring weekend . . .
à bientôt / see you soon, —roséline xo hello! have a returned, as a promised, with a few lovely links, below x
. . . when the chanel spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection graced the runways of paris, there was a collective gasp at the magic underwater kingdom created by karl lagerfeld -- there was lightness and seashells, but most astonishingly lovely, were the iridescent pearls glistening from chignons and following the curvatures of necks and down plunging backs . . .
. . . and after happening upon a few beautiful backstage photos of the show recently, a few golden hairpins laying about on the dressing table, and some pretty pearl beads were all the inspiration necessary . . .
. . . dresses in shades of mint and pastel purple aside, this spring, shall be perfectly obsessed with the classic cat-eye and fluttery lashes, bejewelled bouffants and sexy tousled hair . . .
. . . hello! lovely to see you again, and how was your weekend? ours was filled with a [quite insane] busy-ness, much different from the recent luxuriously low-key weekends of late, late mornings and sunday brunches; this one was filled with unfinished projects, paint and brushes and drywall dust thrown into the mix for most of the time, with a few moments, happily, on sunday evening, for the oscars [didn't gwyneth look amazing?]; and now, extravagantly happy for a new week, just to have things back to a regular pace again, although there is now a mountain of things left to catch up on, and so, very late weekend links to follow, but for now, a flurry of tangerine tango & a quick hello . . .
happy monday! hope your week is off to a perfect start, —roséline xo
{p.s.} have fallen quite behind on emails and responses may take a little longer than usual x

. . . have always adored secret squirrel's 'quiet luxury and modern unassuming style', and the new winter 12 collection, art class, is as pretty as ever, with fun geometric patterns, sexy short trenches and shades of heather grey, blush and coral, that will make mornings before the office a perfect breeze . . .
. . . this weekend was cosy pubs with fireplaces and late, late nights with old friends, lazy sunday mornings and long cups of coffee in perfect slants of winter sunlight; and now, a few moments to catch up and dream and plan for the week ahead . . .
hope you're having an exquisitely lovely weekend, and that it's beautiful where you are, —roséline xo
. . . perhaps it is the utter romance of it all, or the intoxicating concoction paillettes, lace and ruffles, but whatever the reason may be, am always awaiting, with wild anticipation, for the next elie saab collection, which never fails to enchant with its day dresses made for dreaming and evening gowns made for dancing in the moonlight, and never, ever fails to completely take one's breath away . . .
. . . not often one for prints and patterns, but there is something about derek lam's current collection, with its leather skirts and golden oxfords, cotton twill blazers and herringbone coats, silks and knits and sumptuously billowy dresses, that one is hopelessly drawn . . .
. . . after the holidays, there is always a quiet lull, a little lapse in time, where the daydreams begin -- of the new year ahead, of fresh starts and unbroken promises, and the pastel daydreams of winter's quiet deference to the flimsy dresses and fluttery spring days that lay ahead . . .
. . . for last year's new year's eve festivities, it was a silvery lavender silk crepe dress, accessorized, of course, with a party tiara and hand-held sparklers; this year, sheer, lacy, and sprinkled with a million glittery paillettes may be just the thing . . .
. . . and while on the topic of old-world glamour and romance, of holiday chignons and opera gloves, an utterly stunning collection that encompasses all these, and in luxuriously lovely shades of petal pink and dusky lilac, moonstone, silver shadow, pearl . . .
